MINICO® Cigarette Filter FAQ
Whether you're a first-time buyer or a long-time MINICO® user, questions naturally arise about how our filters work, what makes them different, and how to get the best results. We've compiled the most common questions below and answered each one thoroughly so you can make an informed decision.
1. What exactly is a MINICO® cigarette filter?
MINICO® is a compact, reusable cigarette filter insert made from BPA-free, food-grade materials. It slips onto the end of any standard cigarette and uses a multi-layer filtration system to capture tar particles and fine particulate matter before the smoke passes through. Unlike disposable paper filters, MINICO® is designed for repeated use across multiple cigarettes, making it both economical and more environmentally friendly.
2. How much tar and nicotine does MINICO® actually reduce?
Independent laboratory tests show that MINICO® reduces tar delivery by approximately 30–45% compared to smoking without a filter, depending on cigarette brand and individual smoking style. These figures vary because factors like draw speed, cigarette thickness, and tobacco blend all influence how much substance passes through the filter. Even at the lower end of this range, the cumulative tar reduction across a pack per day is significant.
3. Is MINICO® compatible with my cigarette brand?
MINICO® is designed to fit the vast majority of standard-diameter cigarettes (approximately 7.8–8.2 mm in diameter). This covers most popular brands sold in Europe and North America. Slim cigarettes (around 5.4 mm) require our MINICO® Slim variant. King-size and extra-long cigarettes work perfectly with the standard model. If you're unsure, check the diameter printed on your cigarette pack or contact our support team.
4. How do I clean and maintain my MINICO® filter?
After every 4–6 cigarettes, rinse the filter under warm running water for 15–20 seconds, then gently tap it to remove loose residue. Once a week, soak the filter in a small glass of isopropyl alcohol (70%) for 10 minutes, rinse thoroughly, and allow it to air-dry completely before reuse. Never use boiling water or abrasive cleaning tools, as these can damage the filtration membrane. A well-maintained MINICO® filter lasts approximately 150–200 cigarettes.
5. Does the filter change the taste of my cigarette?
There is a mild reduction in perceived intensity because MINICO® removes some of the heavier tar compounds responsible for the harshest notes in cigarette smoke. Most users describe the experience as "cleaner" or "smoother." The fundamental flavour profile of your chosen brand remains largely intact. If you prefer a stronger sensation initially, try drawing slightly faster until you adjust to the filter.
6. Is MINICO® safe? Are the materials food-grade?
Yes. All MINICO® filters are manufactured from BPA-free polycarbonate and food-grade silicone. The inner filtration media uses activated carbon derived from coconut shells, a material widely recognised as safe by health authorities in the EU and USA. No harmful chemicals leach from the filter into the smoke stream under normal operating temperatures. Our products comply with EU Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 on materials in contact with food and equivalent international standards.
7. How many cigarettes can I smoke with one MINICO® filter?
With regular cleaning, one MINICO® filter can be used for 150–200 cigarettes. Visual cues that a filter needs replacing include significant discolouration of the inner membrane that doesn't clear after cleaning, a noticeable reduction in airflow, or any structural damage to the casing. We recommend replacing filters every 4–6 weeks for daily smokers.
8. Where can I buy MINICO® filters?
MINICO® filters are available directly from our official website at minicofilters.com/buy, which offers the best prices and the full product range. We ship to all EU countries, the UK, Switzerland, and Norway, with free standard shipping on orders over €25. Delivery typically takes 3–5 business days within Germany and Austria, and 5–8 business days for other EU destinations.
9. Do you offer a money-back guarantee?
Absolutely. We stand behind every MINICO® product with a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If you are not fully satisfied with your purchase for any reason, simply return the unused or gently used filters within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, no questions asked. Return shipping within Germany is free.
10. How is MINICO® different from standard cigarette filters?
Standard cigarette filters (the cellulose acetate tips built into most cigarettes) are single-use and provide only basic filtration. They capture some large particles but allow the majority of fine tar and gas-phase toxins through. MINICO® adds an additional filtration stage with activated carbon and a precision-pore membrane, significantly reducing fine particle delivery. Furthermore, because MINICO® is reusable and replaceable, you can consistently maintain optimal filtration performance rather than relying on a filter that degrades with each puff.
